Combination-coated Dog Breeds

The dogs with "Combination-coats" feature mixed breed dogs with unpredictable combinations of fur coats and hair coats. These dramatically different coat types are in constant battle with each other making grooming difficult and constant. 

It is important to determine the predominant coat characteristics before shaving these coats and causing permanent problematic changes. If the coat grows to a certain length and then stops growing, then it is best to avoid extreme haircuts and "summer shakedowns". 

Matted undercoat is a common problem with these coat types. It is important to nourish these coats with minerals and a lot of oils to help combat the likelihood of mats that easily form when the undercoat interferes with the growth of the hair coat.
